Hope you'll have a look at the difference between research and account planning. We have research, but it's too "data" oriented... I'm trying to convince our CEO to invest in account planning, so that we get better, more meaningful insights. Any advice on this will be appreciated.

This is the single biggest opportunity for small agencies.
Too many small shops are not as strategically powered as they think they are... and clients notice. Clients are looking for deeper insights that will better impact their business, for deeper brand strategy plans that will better impact their business - and they need to be presented in a way that is persuasive. Too many agencies have a long ways to go in this area.
Definitely recommend this session. Farrah is a fantastic speaker.

Can small agencies afford strategic planning - or is it just for the big agencies?
Small Agency CEO, Mar 27, 2012
Yes, small agencies can afford it, if they know how to sell it. The right account planning will actually turn up more business for your agency, rather than just allow your agency to be order takers (Farrah will talk about this I'm sure) if you can find a good partnership, that is a nice cost-effective way of 'affording' planning and reaping the benefits.
